~ CAD Fine Art Prints and Drawings ~
Bringing a New Dimension to Railroad Art

Many of the wonderful objects from our industrial past no longer exist, so using a computer to create “virtual reconstructions” has assumed an important role in museums and publications, and with galleries and collectors.

We are proud to introduce our CAD Fine Art Prints and Plan Sets, the result of extensive research from my own and other libraries, and reference to original builder’s drawings whenever possible. I use SolidWorks™ 3-D-CAD Modeling software to create these virtual models. Although the computer allows very rapid design capabilities, many hundreds of hours are required to create each Fine Art Print or Drawing set.

This is the CAD model I created of the Mason Bogie, using SolidWorks™, considered the leading software for product design and development. I wanted to share it with you as an example of my CAD Illustration and Product Design work.

I am honored that it was awarded 2nd Runner-up in the SolidWorks 2006 World Design Competition from over 150 international design entries! See more at www.solidworks.com.

Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad
MASON BOGIE 2-6-6T
TENMILE
As built 1879

Built by the famous Mason Locomotive Works in 1879, the Mason Bogie was considered one of the most beautiful locomotives ever built, and had the reputation of "running like a fine watch". The largest single user of these colorful locomotives was the narrow gauge Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad, with nineteen on the roster.

Third in our series of famous steam locomotives, the TENMILE was computer modeled as she may have appeared when early in service. The elegant color scheme is based on standard practice of the era, and in consultation with South Park historians including Jim Wilke and Mal Ferrell. Unfortunately, these expensive to maintain colors were soon repainted "basic black".

The only existing Mason Bogie, the Torch Lake (of a different style) is maintained in mint condition and operated at The Henry Ford Museum, in Dearborn, Michigan, USA.

The Baldwin Locomotive Works 2-8-0 No. 42, the Anglo Saxon, circa 1881, was among the first of the Class 60 (later C-16) built for the narrow gauge Denver and Rio Grande Railroad, working both freight and passenger service in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. These diminutive locomotives became perhaps the most famous of all narrow gauge rod engines, with some serving well into the mid Twentieth Century following extensive rebuilding and modernization.
